1932 : Sultan Said bin Taimur ascends to the throne.
With the accession of Said bin Taimur in 1932 came a concerted effort to unify Oman under the power of the new sultan. In 1937, Said bin Taimur signed a lucrative oil concession with Petroleum Concessions Ltd, a subsidiary of the Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC) consortium. He consolidated power and regained control of the tribal interior, bringing together Muscat and Oman. Once the country was united, Said left the capital of Muscat and resided in a coastal town in Dhofar. Muscat and Oman became fully sovereign and independent states in 1951 with him as ruler.
