Imam Nasser bin Murshid is a renowned figure in Oman’s history, having founded the Ya’rubi state and ruled from 1624 AD to 1649 AD. During this time, Oman was experiencing chaos, and parts of its coast were occupied by the Portuguese. However, Imam Nasser bin Murshid’s leadership and strategic planning united the country and prepared it to confront the Portuguese.
Nasser bin Murshid died on 14 April 1649 and was buried at Nizwa. He was succeeded by his cousin, Sultan bin Saif, who was to soon drive the Portuguese entirely out of the country.
